Example Applications
This section gives an overview of some applications you can use to generate
and manipulate moving images.
Apple iMovie and Final Cut. Mac-only video editing applications,
based on QuickTime. iMovie is somewhat basic but also easy to use, and it is
currently available for free. Final Cut is a fully featured video editing application.
Both function well with digital video cameras that connect through the
FireWire port on the Mac.
Adobe Premiere. This is another popular video editing application, available
on both Mac and Windows. If you feel that iMovie is too basic and Final
Cut is too expensive, Premiere should fit the bill. It’s also one of the oldest applications
around for video editing, and is considered by many as an industry
workhorse in terms of reliability and capabilities.
Other Video Editing Applications. You can use essentially any video
editing package on Mac or Windows as long as it provides full access to the
codecs provided by QuickTime. When choosing a Windows based application,
make sure that it gives you full access to QuickTime – not just the ability
