School Certificate or Matriculation Certificate.<br />
The organization of the course groups changes with each<br />
revision of the national curriculum. The study schemes for<br />
different course groups prescribed by the 1995 <strong>and</strong> 2000<br />
curricula are described below. These schemes serve only<br />
as general guidelines, as the actual format <strong>and</strong> allocation<br />
of marks may vary depending on the time period <strong>and</strong><br />
examining board.<br />
Scheme of Studies, 1995 Curriculum<br />
The 1995 curriculum m<strong>and</strong>ated four compulsory subjects<br />
for all students, worth a maximum total of 450 marks.<br />

Students may choose either the general group (which<br />
includes various streams) or the science group. Each of these<br />
groups requires four additional subjects, each of which<br />
is worth 100 marks. The Secondary School Certificate<br />
Examination, therefore, has a maximum total of 850 marks.<br />
Tables 8 <strong>and</strong> 9 show the scheme of studies for the general <strong>and</strong><br />
science groups, as prescribed in the 1995 national curriculum.<br />
