Field Columbus
Area Central North Sea
Operator Serica
Development concept Subsea
Transport concept 6km pipeline to Lomond
Start-up 2013
Comments: Serica plans to submit a modified field development plan covering the whole of
the Columbus gas/condensate field later in the year. This follows discussions with BG whose
23/21-7 appraisal well in late 2008/early 2009 proved an extension of the field from Serica’s
23/16f into BG’s 23/21. The field will be developed with three-four horizontal subsea production
wells tied back to BG’s Lomond platform, six km to the south-east – BP’s Marnock was the
other option for the host. The export pipeline will be 12-14 inches. Reserves in Serica’s block
are estimated at 17.7m boe; the volume in BG’s block is smaller. Start-up has probably been
pushed back to 2013, Serica says.
Field Crawford II
Area Northern North Sea
Operator Fairfield
Development concept Subsea or jackup platform
Transport concept 30km pipeline to East Brae or offshore loading
Start-up 2011/12
Comments: Fairfield aims to decide the concept for redeveloping Crawford and sanction the
project by mid year. It is evaluating two alternatives; a jackup drilling rig with production
facilities and offshore loading or a subsea tieback to Marathon’s East Brae. In Dec it completed
a joint feasibility study with Marathon and BP for the subsea tieback of Crawford and Devenick
to the East Brae platform. There are likely to be four wells, one of them an outlier located about
1.2 km distant from the drilling centre. In the subsea scenario the wells would be tied into a
manifold, and production would be exported through a 10in multiphase pipeline and lift-gas
imported through a 4in line. Genesis is responsible for FEED and detailed design of a subsea
development. Wells will need to be fracced - a long-term contract for fracture and stimulation
services has been signed with Schlumberger, which will use the specialised vessel Siem
Sailor. Recoverable reserves are estimated at 26m bbl.
