Field
Maureen Redevelopment
Area Central North Sea
Operator Fairfield
Development concept Subsea
Transport concept Pipeline – 21 km to Andrew or 14 km to Varg
Start-up 2011/12?
Comments: Fairfield’s 16/29a-17 appraisal well on Maureen North-East last year failed to find
commercial quantities of hydrocarbons. This may spell the end of redevelopment plans - the
company said it would have to evaluate whether it still had a commercial project on its hands.
This process was still under way in Mar. Development was previously planned to begin with
Maureen North-East, which was believed to hold an estimated 27m bbl of oil in place, together
with the underlying Morag reservoir. Funding of the well was largely taken on by Endeavour
and Challenger Minerals under a farm-in deal. Fairfield also sees potential in the nearby Mary
and Mabel fields – Mary has already been in production while Mabel is an undeveloped
discovery. Fairfield’s preferred development solution was subsea facilities tied back either to
BP’s Andrew hub or Talisman’s Varg in the Norwegian sector. Stand-alone mobile solutions
were also evaluated. Maureen was originally developed by Phillips; it ceased production in
1999 when 226m bbl had been produced.
Field Monkwell
Area Southern North Sea
Operator Dana
Development concept Subsea
Transport concept 10km pipeline to Cleeton?
Start-up 2011
Comments: Dana seems to be confident of developing the small Monkwell gas field – it has
ordered a subsea tree and control system from DrilQuip which the supplier put on display at
Offshore Europe last year. Start-up is scheduled for 2011. But first comes a crucial appraisal
well, which jackup GSF Labrador looks like spudding in May. Assuming the well is successful,
Monkwell will be developed as a subsea tieback to a nearby host – an agreement has been
reached with the host, according to Dana. The leading candidate appears to be Cleeton, some
10 km to the south-east, which already hosts several satellites.
