Field Welland
Area Southern North Sea
Operator Perenco
Field facilities 1,000t topsides, 570t jacket, two platform wells, three subsea
wells, in-field flowlines and umbilicals, 18km export pipeline
Production end 2002
Comments: Although production from Welland ceased in 2002, decommissioning did not take
place under the then operator ExxonMobil as some reuse possibilities existed. In 2007 the
platform passed to Perenco’s ownership. Reuse is no longer viable as the export pipeline has
been disconnected at Thames. Perenco, which has extensive southern basin assets, is
preparing an overall decommissioning strategy before deciding what to do with Welland. The
abandonment of the two platform wells, one of which was drilled into the Tristan field, may take
place this year. The platform and subsea equipment will have to be removed but the pipelines
and umbilicals could be left in place.
