Field
Moth
Area Central North Sea
Operator BG
Development concept Subsea?
Transport concept 2km pipeline to Lomond?
Start-up 2012/13
Comments: In 2008 Oilexco North Sea made a significant oil/gas/condensate discovery with
Moth exploration well 23/21-6 and a sidetrack, drilled by semisub Ocean Guardian. The well
was drilled under a farm-in deal whereby Oilexco gained a 50% stake in the licence though BG
remains the operator. The company said the field was capable of producing 44 MMcf/d of gas
and 4,400 b/d of liquids. Premier, which has taken over Oilexco, says it is studying the Triassic
potential in 23/22b to the east. An appraisal well on Moth is planned but it seems this will only
come in 2011, thus pushing back likely start-up to 2012 or beyond. Moth is likely to be tied
back two km to Lomond, also a gas/condensate field, where BG has taken over from BP as
operator as part of an asset swap. A subsea solution seems most likely.
Field Pi (NOR)
Area Central North Sea
Operator BG
Development concept Subsea
Transport concept Pipelines to Armada
Start-up Oct 2011
Comments: BG is seeking approval to develop the Pi field in the Norwegian sector as a
subsea tieback to its Armada platform in the UK sector. Two wells will be drilled, one on Pi
North and one on Pi South, and each will be tied back separately to a seabed manifold
weighing about 100t close to the platform. The pipelines will be 8in/12in pipe-in-pipe systems,
with the inner pipes made from 22Cr or 13Cr steel. The Pi North line will be 8.2 km long and Pi
South 5.6 or 7.2 km depending on the route chosen. The manifold will be fitted with subsea
multiphase flowmeters and a subsea isolation valve. A new 30in riser caisson will be installed
on the platform jacket. Drilling and subsea installation are both scheduled to start in spring
2011, and start-up is scheduled for the following Oct.
