SIK ARTHUR AND LADY ANNE.<br />

Janet Anderson, <strong>of</strong> Lightshaw, the name <strong>of</strong> a neighbouiing farm possessed<br />

by her father.<br />

Lapraik unfortunately became involved in the calamity occasioned<br />

by the stoppage <strong>of</strong> the Douglas <strong>and</strong> Heron Bank, <strong>and</strong> was compelled<br />

to part vs^ith his property. After experiencing considerable difficulty,<br />

the poet, at an advanced period <strong>of</strong> life, became post-master in Muirkirk,<br />

where he died, in the eightieth year <strong>of</strong> his age, on the 7th May<br />

1807.<br />
