in retirement, until November, 1666, when he headed the Covenanters at<br />
Pentl<strong>and</strong>. Colonel Wallace possessed the estate <strong>of</strong> Auchans, the mansionhouse<br />
<strong>of</strong> which, now in ruins, is situated in the vicinity <strong>of</strong> Dundonald<br />
Castle. His family were a branch <strong>of</strong> the Wallaces <strong>of</strong> Craigie. He was<br />
the last <strong>of</strong> the name that owned the property, having disposed <strong>of</strong> it, before<br />
engaging in the insurrection, to his relative Sir William Cochrane<br />
<strong>of</strong> Oowdon, the progenitor <strong>of</strong> the Lords Dundonald. <strong>The</strong> parties<br />
against whom the doom <strong>of</strong> forfeiture was pronounced by act <strong>of</strong> Parliament<br />
