Access to Jobs Initiative<br />
The Jobs Access Program is designed to give TANF recipients and low<strong>in</strong>come<br />
<strong>in</strong>dividuals transportation to work and to improve the public transportation<br />
systems <strong>in</strong> Connecticut. Services are designed for those<br />
transition<strong>in</strong>g <strong>of</strong>f public assistance and others earn<strong>in</strong>g low <strong>in</strong>comes, but<br />
can be used by anyone. Fares are reasonable and contributions from<br />
employers are welcomed. A job developer, an employer, or a group <strong>of</strong><br />
employees need<strong>in</strong>g transportation assistance is encouraged to call the<br />

ACORN Hous<strong>in</strong>g Corporation (AHC)<br />
AHC assists families to become homeowners and provides homeowners<br />
with ref<strong>in</strong>anc<strong>in</strong>g and predatory lend<strong>in</strong>g counsel<strong>in</strong>g. A lot <strong>of</strong> AHC’s work<br />
takes place <strong>in</strong> forgotten areas <strong>that</strong> have seen serious dis<strong>in</strong>vestment. AHC<br />
operates <strong>in</strong> low- and very low-<strong>in</strong>come neighborhoods where over 90%<br />
<strong>of</strong> the residents are African-American, Mexican-American, and/or recent<br />
immigrants from Central America or the West Indies. Services <strong>in</strong>clude<br />
community outreach, pre-purchase counsel<strong>in</strong>g, del<strong>in</strong>quency counsel<strong>in</strong>g,<br />
homeownership and credit counsel<strong>in</strong>g. AHC <strong>help</strong>s homeowners<br />
choose appropriate loan sources and obta<strong>in</strong> loan approval through partnerships<br />
