Those who already possess good traits such as faith and wisdom should try to avoid evil<br />

conducts and continue to develop virtues further and further with appreciation and satisfaction.<br />

May all acquire good character through my presentation. May my associates expel bad traits and<br />

nurture good ones from this existence and hereafter. May all priceless wisdom character dwell in<br />

my mind-continuum forever and ever. In addition, may faithful nature enable me to devote only<br />

in the righteous.<br />

6. 0 Chapter Six<br />

Ten Meritorious Actions<br />

Understanding the Ten Evil Conducts (duccarita) also known as unwholesome course of actions<br />

(akusala kammapatha) and Ten Moral Conducts (sucaritha), are important to the readers.<br />

6.1 Ten Meritorious Actions - (Ten Punna Kiriyavatthu)<br />

The ten meritorious deeds are those that purify the mind and produce prosperity and welfare.<br />

These ten moral deeds give you the highest blessing the Auspiciousness –(Mingala).<br />

1. Charity - Charity<br />

2. Morality - Síla<br />

3. Meditation - Bhávaná<br />

4. Giving due respect to others - Apacayana<br />

5. Rendering service and assistance - Veyyavaca<br />

6. Sharing merits - Patti-Charity<br />

7. Rejoicing at and appreciation of merits of others – Pattanumodhan<br />

8. Listening to the Dhamma - Dhammassavana<br />

9. Teaching the Dhamma to others - Dhammadesana<br />

10. Right belief - Ditthijukamma<br />

6.1.1. Charity (Charity)<br />

Charity means giving charity. There are two types of Charity, namely<br />

i. Goodwill – Volitional - Cetana Charity<br />

ii. Material charity - Vatthu Charity<br />

Offerings of requisites, robes, monasteries, etc are as material charity, while the goodwill in<br />

these charitable acts is volition Charity. This volition produces beneficial results here and here<br />

after in the next existences, not the offering of material things.. This mental attitude, projected<br />

onto the offertories, determines the good results in future existences. If the offertories are good<br />

and noble, so is your volition.<br />

Example - If, during an offering of alms-food to the Monks - Sangha, a donor has as his object<br />
