(b) BTVET sub­sector<br />

In the BTVET sub­sector, the following were achieved:<br />

(i) Procured an assortment of training tools <strong>and</strong> equipment for twenty (20) technical/ farm schools;<br />

plus twenty (20) desk top computers for Fort Portal School of clinical officers;<br />

(ii) Trained <strong>and</strong> assessed14,976 non­formal trainees from310 training institutions;<br />

(iii) Disbursed funds toBTVET examination bodies for setting, printing, <strong>and</strong> conducting examination;<br />

(iv) Operationalized Ug<strong>and</strong>a Business Technical Examination Board to conduct Business <strong>and</strong> Technical<br />

examinations for specialized training institutions in Ug<strong>and</strong>a;<br />

(v) Monitored <strong>and</strong> helped supervise 13 BTVET institutions;<br />

(vi) Inspected550 BTVET institutions across the country;<br />

(vii) Carried out curriculum development <strong>and</strong> review for technical institutes in the field of agriculture;<br />

<strong>and</strong>,<br />

(viii) Established quality related infrastructure i.e. libraries to increase access to textbooks <strong>and</strong><br />

availedstudents with more reading space, computer laboratories to equip students with ICT skills,<br />

<strong>and</strong> workshops to facilitate practical learning.<br />

(c) Higher <strong>Education</strong><br />

In the higher education sub­sector, the following were achieved:­<br />

(i) Supervision <strong>and</strong> accreditation of universities <strong>and</strong> their programmes by NCHE where 118<br />

programs were accredited.<br />

(ii) Development, expansion <strong>and</strong> rehabilitation of infrastructure in all public universities;<br />

(iii) Enhanced outreach programmes in public universities that made field attachment compulsory;<br />

(iv) Provided Instructional materials, tools <strong>and</strong> equipment in all public universities;<br />

(v) Institutionalized staff development programmes;<br />

(vi) Enhanced Quality Assurance Committee of Senate <strong>and</strong> Council; <strong>and</strong>,<br />

(vii) Provided financial support amounting to 0.6bn to Kisubi Brothers’ University College, a<br />

constituent College of Ug<strong>and</strong>a Martyrs’ University <strong>and</strong> Ug shs 2bn to Ug<strong>and</strong>a Petroleum<br />

Institute Kigumba (UPIK).<br />

4.3 Efficiency <strong>and</strong> Effectiveness<br />

(a) Pre­primary <strong>and</strong> Primary <strong>Education</strong><br />

In Pre­primary <strong>and</strong> Primary <strong>Education</strong> Sub­sector, the following were achieved:­<br />

(i) Provided Support Supervision to UPE <strong>and</strong> Private Schools <strong>and</strong> ECD Centres;<br />

(ii) Implemented Safe School Initiative to foster conducive learning environment for pupils;<br />

(iii) Conducted Outreach Activities, Continuous Professional Development (CPD), for<br />

220,327teachers, supported through Coordinating Centres;<br />

(iv) Funded Primary Teacher <strong>Education</strong> Practicum Programs;<br />

(v) Monitored <strong>and</strong> assessed the status of school hygiene <strong>and</strong> sanitation;<br />

(vi) Paid hardship allowance of 30% of basic monthly salary paid to teachers in hard to reach areas;<br />

(vii) Supportedthe implementation of Teachers Scheme of Service;<br />

(viii) Retooled teachers <strong>and</strong> head teachers in ICT ; <strong>and</strong>,<br />

(ix) Trained School Construction Committees.<br />
