APPENDIX C: CULTURAL COMPETENCY<br />

6. Empowerment and Advocacy: Individuals working within all levels <strong>of</strong> the System <strong>of</strong> Care are<br />

aware <strong>of</strong> the effect <strong>of</strong> policies and programs on diverse client populations, advocating for and<br />

with children, youth and families when appropriate.<br />

7. Diverse Workforce: Individuals working within all levels <strong>of</strong> the System <strong>of</strong> Care support and<br />

advocate for recruitment, admissions, hiring and retention efforts in programs and agencies<br />

that ensure diversity within the system.<br />

8. Pr<strong>of</strong>essional Education: Individuals working within all levels <strong>of</strong> the System <strong>of</strong> Care advocate<br />

for and participate in educational and training programs that help advance cultural competence<br />

within the system.<br />

9. Language Diversity: Individuals working within all levels <strong>of</strong> the System <strong>of</strong> Care seek to<br />

provide or advocate for the provision <strong>of</strong> information, referrals and services in the language<br />

appropriate to the client, which may include the use <strong>of</strong> interpreters.<br />

10. Cross-Cultural Leadership: Individuals working within all levels <strong>of</strong> the System <strong>of</strong> Care are<br />

able to communicate information about diverse client groups to other pr<strong>of</strong>essionals.<br />
