Emergency Medical Services<br />
EMERGENCY MEDICAL TECHNICIAN (EMT-BASIC)<br />
11 Credit Hours<br />
This eleven (11) hour college credit program was developed to provide rst-phase training in the career<br />
structure of the emergency medical technician. In order to be employed with an ambulance service in the<br />
State of <strong>Florida</strong>, a student must be trained and certi ed through the EMS section of the Department of<br />
Health and Rehabilitative Services. Successful completion of this course will enable the student to apply<br />
to take the State Registry Examination for EMT.<br />
Enrollment Requirements:<br />
Only students who have completed the total application process will be considered for enrollment in the<br />
EMT program. Applicants are noti ed of placement in the program when all admission criteria have been<br />
met.<br />

A completed application includes:<br />
1. Completion of NFCC application and payment of the $20 non-refundable application fee.<br />
2. Completed CPR course for BLS Health Care Providers. A copy of current card should be attached<br />
to application.<br />
3. Completed medical clearance forms.<br />
4. Immunization Records.<br />
5. Documentation of high school graduation (transcript) or copy of GED. Exceptions to this rule will<br />
be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.<br />
6. Documentation of birth date (driver’s license or birth certi cate).<br />
7. Completion of background check and drug screen.<br />
8. PRIOR TO ADMISSION, scores of 10 are required in English, Math and Reading subtests of the<br />
Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE). A $10 fee is required to be paid at the Business Of ce on<br />
the day of testing. Call the NFCC Testing Center (850) 973-9451 to request a testing date.<br />
9. Attendance at an orientation session.<br />
Students who have satisfactory TABE scores and have successfully completed each course within the<br />
EMT program will receive the college credit associated with that course. SPECIAL NOTE: Satisfactory<br />
completion of the EMT Program does not guarantee the acceptance by the Bureau of EMS to test for<br />
licensure.<br />
