EMS 2604C. PARAMEDIC<br />

II: Twelve Credits, Twelve<br />

Hours. This course is designed<br />

to reinforce and expand upon<br />

information and clinical skills<br />

learned in EMT and Paramedic<br />

I and to integrate prior learning<br />

with enhanced advanced life<br />

support concepts and skills. The<br />

competency-based lab exercises<br />

emphasize patient assessment,<br />

medication administration,<br />

ECG equipment, ECG<br />

interpretation and treatment<br />

strategies, cardiovascular<br />

therapeutic interventions and<br />

Advanced Cardiac Life Support<br />

resuscitative care. Prerequisites:<br />

EMS 2603C & EMS 2656. Corequisites:<br />

EMS 2657.<br />

EMS 2605C. PARAMEDIC<br />

III: Three Credits, Four Hours.<br />

This course is designed to<br />

reinforce and expand upon the<br />

information and clinical skills<br />

learned and to integrate prior<br />

learning to enhance advanced<br />

life support concepts and<br />

skills. The labs are designed to<br />

develop an EMS professional<br />

who is capable of providing<br />

basic and advance life support<br />

in all aspects of emergency<br />

care. Prerequisites: EMS 2604C<br />

& EMS 2657. Co-requisites: EMS<br />

2658 & EMS 2659.<br />

EMS 2656 PARAMEDIC I<br />

CLINICAL: Two Credits, Two<br />

Hours. This practicum provides<br />

the opportunity for each student<br />

to develop competency in<br />

clinical skills within the hospital<br />

setting. Stresses the integration<br />

and application of EMT skills<br />

with advanced paramedic<br />

skills and techniques with<br />

directed clinical experiences in<br />

the emergency departments,<br />

community center OR/RR, and<br />

emergency medical services.<br />

Prerequisite EMS 1119, EMS<br />

1119L, EMS 1411, EMS 1421<br />

& BSC 2084C or higher. Corequisite:<br />

EMS 2603C.<br />

EMS 2657. PARAMEDIC II<br />

CLINICAL: Three Credits,<br />

Three Hours. This practicum<br />

provides the opportunity for<br />

in hospital and out of hospital<br />

settings for each student to<br />

develop competency in clinical<br />

skills necessary to serve as<br />

a member of an advanced<br />

life support team. Directed<br />

clinical experiences include<br />

pre-hospital, emergency<br />

departments, critical care units,<br />

operating room and recovery<br />

room. Prerequisites: EMS 2603C<br />

& EMS 2656. Co-requisite: EMS<br />

2604C.<br />

EMS 2658. PARAMEDIC III<br />

CLINICAL: Four Credits, Four<br />

Hours. This practicum provides<br />

the opportunity within the<br />

hospital setting for each student<br />

to develop competency in<br />

clinical skills necessary to serve<br />

as a member of an advanced life<br />

support team. Directed clinical<br />

+experiences include obstetrical<br />

units, pediatric emergency<br />

departments, pediatric urgent<br />

care, and geriatric and mental<br />

health facilities. Prerequisites:<br />

EMS 2604C & EMS 2657. Corequisites:<br />

EMS 2605C & EMS<br />

EMS 2659. PARAMEDIC III<br />

FIELD INTERNSHIP: Four<br />

Credits, Four Hours. Under<br />

the auspices of the medical<br />

director, the course is designed<br />

to provide the student with<br />

intensive out of hospital clinical<br />

experience which foster s the<br />

development of leadership skills,<br />

expands and further develops<br />

clinical skills and allows for<br />

the transition from observer to<br />

team leader in the professional<br />

paramedic role. Students will<br />

independently perform a focus<br />

history and physical exam,<br />

arrive at an accurate prehospital<br />

diagnosis and formulate<br />

and implement appropriate eld<br />

treatment plans. Prerequisites:<br />

EMS 2604C & EMS 2657. Corequisites<br />

EMS 2605C & EMS<br />

MTB 1370. MATH FOR<br />

MEDS: Two Credits, Two Hours.<br />

Basic concepts of arithmetic,<br />

use and conversion of metric,<br />

apothecary, and household<br />

measurements for the<br />

purpose of giving medications.<br />

Prerequisite: MAT 0024 with<br />

a grade of “C” or higher or<br />

appropriate scores on accepted<br />

placement test and at least one<br />

college level math.<br />

Orientation to a foundation of<br />

knowledge, understanding, and<br />

skills, common to a variety of<br />

health technologies to serve<br />

as a base from which special<br />

technologies can depart. This<br />

course is designed to provide<br />

students with communication<br />

skills, legal and ethical behavior,<br />

employability skills. Prerequisite:<br />
