PATIENT CARE TECHNICIAN<br />
ALLIED HEALTH - PATIENT CARE TECHNICIAN (PCT)<br />
600 Clock Hours/20 Vocational Credit Hours<br />
The Patient Care Technician program is designed to prepare both men and women to begin work at the<br />
technical, assistant level in a variety of settings including home health, hospitals, clinics, nursing homes<br />
or other long term care facilities under the supervision of a registered nurse.<br />
Following the Health Careers Core, each component or module is completed in sequence through the<br />
Patient Care Technician module. Upon successful completion of the rst three modules, the student can<br />
apply to the <strong>Florida</strong> Board of Nursing to take the certi cation exam to become licensed as a certi ed<br />
nursing assistant. Upon successful completion of all seven modules, the graduate can apply to take the<br />
national certi cation exam for patient care technician.<br />
Enrollment Requirements<br />
Students must:<br />
1. Submit a completed application and application fee to <strong>North</strong> <strong>Florida</strong> <strong>Community</strong> <strong>College</strong>.<br />
2. Be at least 18 years of age.<br />
3. Have a high school diploma or G.E.D.<br />
4. Complete the Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE) and obtain acceptable scores for program<br />
success. A $10 fee is required at the time of testing. It is strongly recommended that the<br />
student have the achieved the required scores for program completion on the basic skills<br />
examination prior to admission. These scores are: Reading 10.0, Language 10.0 Spelling<br />
10.0 Math Application 10.0 and Math Computation 10.0. Students not having achieved the<br />
minimal scores may not be able to progress through course modules and will not be awarded<br />
a certi cate of course completion. Since entry into this program is limited, preference will be<br />
given to those students achieving required TABE scores prior to admission.<br />
5. Submit a complete and current physical examination, including eye examination.<br />
6. Submit to a criminal background check and drug screen and be cleared for clinical learning<br />
activities by each clinical agency utilized by the program.<br />

Students are required to buy a white uniform and white duty shoes, and a watch with a second hand.<br />
There is also a supply fee which includes CPR materials, malpractice insurance, time card, and lab<br />
supplies.<br />
