EEC 2240. SOCIAL STUDIES<br />
AND CREATIVE EXPRESSION<br />
FOR YOUNG CHILDREN:<br />
Three Credits, Three Hours.<br />
(Spring) This methods class<br />
provides students with the<br />
knowledge of developmentally<br />
appropriate social studies and<br />
creative expression concepts<br />
for children birth through<br />
age eight and techniques for<br />
incorporating them throughout<br />
the curriculum. Topics include<br />
culture, time, people, places,<br />
individual and global identify,<br />
sense of community, dramatic<br />
play, music, art, and creative<br />
movement. The course<br />
also includes assessment<br />

MANAGEMENT: Three Credits,<br />

course provides an overview<br />
of the core competencies<br />
required of current and<br />
potential child care program<br />
directors managing early<br />
childhood programs. Topics<br />
include budgeting, legal issues,<br />
personnel, working with families<br />
and community partners, food<br />
service, health issues, and<br />
program safety management.<br />

EEC 2734. HEALTH, SAFETY,<br />
AND NUTRITION: Three<br />
Credits, Three Hours. (Spring)<br />
This course provides an<br />
overview of health, safety, and<br />
nutrition issues related to early<br />
childhood programs. Students<br />
will learn how to implement<br />
policies and procedures to<br />
ensure safe and healthy<br />
learning environments are<br />
available for children. Topics<br />
include proper emergency<br />
preparedness procedures,<br />
recognition and prevention<br />
of childhood diseases, child<br />
abuse and neglect, and USDA<br />
recommendations for food<br />
service and management.<br />
EEX 1010. INTRO TO<br />
EXCEPTIONAL CHILD<br />
EDUCATION: Three Credits,<br />
Three Hours. (Fall, Spring)<br />
This course is designed to<br />
provide an orientation to<br />
exceptional child education.<br />
Emphasis will be placed on<br />
appropriate needs, placement,<br />
and resources for exceptional<br />
children with a focus on<br />
designing programs that enable<br />
all children to become active<br />
participants in the learning<br />
process.<br />
HEV 0101.<br />
CHILD CARE TEACHER<br />
AIDE: This course allows a<br />
student to become well versed<br />
in the child care industry. The<br />
course provides an overview<br />
of early childhood career<br />
options and responsibilities.<br />
The course provides<br />
instruction in professionalism;<br />
knowledge of community<br />
needs and resources;<br />
interpersonal relationships<br />
skills; roles of the child care<br />
center staff; observation<br />
and recording methods;<br />
leadership and organizational<br />
skills; intercommunication<br />
with families; and positive<br />
communication techniques.<br />
This course includes supervised<br />
direct eld experience, which<br />
enables the student to put into<br />
practice the concepts learned<br />
in the classroom. Special fees<br />
apply. Prerequisite: HEV 0117.<br />
HEV 0117. CHILD CARE<br />
WORKER: This course<br />
covers the competencies for<br />
the Department of Children<br />
and Families and general<br />
competencies for initial<br />
employment. Students will<br />
acquire competency in state<br />
rules and regulations that<br />
govern child care; child abuse<br />
and neglect; establishing<br />
and maintaining a safe,<br />
healthy learning environment;<br />
food service and nutrition;<br />
principles of child development,<br />
both typical and atypical;<br />
developmentally appropriate<br />
practices for programs<br />
serving children from birth to<br />
age twelve; communication<br />
skills relating to child care;<br />
observation and recording<br />
methods; and appropriate<br />
methods of guidance. Special<br />

HEV 0156. PRESCHOOL<br />
TEACHER: This course will<br />
support the acquisition of<br />
knowledge and skills necessary<br />
to implement a supportive,<br />
developmentally appropriate,<br />
safe, family focus group care<br />
environment for children birth<br />
to age three. Included will be<br />
instruction in health, safety and<br />
nutrition of infants and toddlers;<br />
theories of child development;<br />
basic curriculum development;<br />
sensory integration and physical<br />
development activities of infants<br />
and toddlers; developmentally<br />
appropriate physical activities<br />
for preschool children. This<br />
course includes supervised<br />
