integrated economic plan for the county which meant<br />
that <strong>Age</strong> <strong>Friendly</strong> could align as another pillar alongside<br />
sustainable energy, foreign direct investment, cultural<br />
activities, agricultural and food production and education<br />
and training. With this recognition, the age friendly agenda<br />
becomes more central, animating all the other pillars and<br />
become embedded in the long term economic thinking of the<br />
county. It becomes the positive economics of living longer”<br />
Making Contacts With Businesses:<br />
The <strong>Age</strong> <strong>Friendly</strong> City/ County Coordinator can initiate contact with key people<br />
either informally or formally [adapt template of letter inviting people to join the<br />
<strong>Age</strong> <strong>Friendly</strong> Alliance] Kilkenny is one of the counties in Ireland which developed<br />
a strong supportive programme for businesses to become age friendly. An<br />
award scheme was developed to celebrate the businesses that made the most<br />
efforts to make their businesses age friendly. The <strong>Age</strong> <strong>Friendly</strong> Ireland Regional<br />
Consultant may be a useful resource here in terms of suggestions to meet<br />
members of Business of <strong>Age</strong>ing Forums in other counties. Find out if it’s possible<br />
for a Business of <strong>Age</strong>ing award winner from Kilkenny to come and make a<br />
presentation at your Alliance meeting.<br />
