Now is the time to spread the message about the Age Friendly Cities and Counties programme and the excitement surrounding the launch of the programme in your county. ... Final Words Some counties have used the launch of the Age Friendly Cities and Counties Programme as an opportunity to have a consultation with older people. If you decide to do this, you will need much more careful advanced planning for your launch. Use the following section in conjunction with the launch planning for your first consultation if this is the case. If you decide to host a consultation at the launch of the programme, you will also have to do a lot of research into what’s already available in the city/county for older people. Knowing in advance which organisations/state agencies provide which services to older people makes the consultation a much more worthwhile process for everyone. You can share information with people about services they may not know about and you can also find out the genuine gaps in the services which will need to be addressed by the Age Friendly programme. 45
