It’s important to realise that most people are interested in getting things done<br />
rather than planning how and when to do them. So, get ready to explain that the<br />
<strong>Age</strong> <strong>Friendly</strong> County/City is a long term approach to having older people’s voices<br />
central to decision-making on issues that affect daily life in the county – health<br />
and transport and environmental infrastructure.<br />
Also, plan your event carefully to get as many people as you can along to the event.<br />
The spring and autumn months can be good times for a strategy launch as it’s<br />
a time when people are settling in to new routines. Make sure the date suits all<br />
your speakers before booking the venue.<br />
Lining Up Your Speakers<br />
Choose a guest speaker – if possible the person who was your local champion at<br />
the launch of the <strong>Age</strong> <strong>Friendly</strong> programme in your city/county.<br />
Ask the Chairperson of the Older People’s Council to speak at the event.<br />
Ask the Chief Executive to speak at the launch. Ask him/her to also approach some<br />
members of the <strong>Age</strong> <strong>Friendly</strong> Alliance to see who’s best to speak at the event.<br />
Ask the City/County Mayor if he/she will officially launch the strategy.<br />
