The employer maintains work and training records, evaluates the trainee’s<br />

progress, agrees to at least one wage increase during the training period, and<br />

certifies the trainee’s hours to the VA each month.<br />

WHO IS ELIGIBLE?<br />

<strong>Veteran</strong>s and service members eligible for the Montgomery GI Bill (Chapter 30),<br />

Post-Vietnam Era <strong>Veteran</strong>s’ Education Assistance Program (Chapter 32), Post-<br />

9/11 GI Bill (Chapter 33), Survivors’ and Dependents’ Educational Assistance<br />

Program (Chapter 35), and Montgomery GI Bill - Selected Reserve Program<br />

(Chapter 1606) are eligible for OJT and Apprenticeship Training programs.<br />

MONTGOMERY GI BILL: SELECTED RESERVE<br />

The Montgomery GI Bill - Selected Reserve (MGIB-SR) Program, Chapter 1606,<br />

may be available to a veteran who is a member of the Selected Reserve. The<br />

Selected Reserve includes the Army Reserve, Navy Reserve, Air Force Reserve,<br />

Marine Corps Reserve and Coast Guard Reserve, and the Army National Guard<br />

and the Air National Guard. <strong>Veteran</strong>s may use this education assistance program<br />

for up to 36 months on a degree program, certificate or correspondence courses,<br />

cooperative training, independent study programs, apprenticeship/on-thejob<br />

training, and vocational flight training programs. Remedial, refresher and<br />

deficiency training are available under certain circumstances.<br />

WHO IS ELIGIBLE?<br />

To qualify, Reservists and National Guardsmen must meet the following<br />

requirements:<br />

Have a six-year obligation to serve in the Selected Reserve signed after<br />

June 30, 1985. Officers must have agreed to serve six years in addition to<br />

the veteran’s original obligation. For some types of training, it is necessary to<br />

have a six-year commitment that begins after September 30, 1990;<br />
