To be admitted to the VHC, veterans must meet the following requirements:<br />
1. Age 55 or over and/or have a significant disability or are homeless;<br />
2. Served on active duty in the U.S. military and were discharged honorably or<br />
under honorable conditions;<br />
3. Still able to live independently or qualify for a higher level of care offered at<br />
one of the VHC (contact the individual home for clarification on qualifying for<br />
a higher level of care);<br />
4. California resident;<br />
5. Enrolled in a qualified federal, state or private health service plan, or have<br />
an application for such a plan pending. These plans include Medicare,<br />
Medi-Cal, USDVA, Tricare and private insurance coverage. <strong>Veteran</strong>s eligible<br />
for Medicare and Medi-Cal, USDVA and Tricare must enroll and maintain<br />
coverage or self-pay for medical care;<br />
6. Able to live with and get along with other people in a structured communal<br />
environment.<br />
Applications for the VHC can be obtained through the local County <strong>Veteran</strong>s<br />
Services Office (pg. 163), or online at www.calvet.ca.gov (<strong>Veteran</strong> Homes).<br />
