The U.S. Department of <strong>Veteran</strong>s Affairs (VA) mission is to provide benefits and<br />
services to veterans and their families in a responsive, timely and compassionate<br />
manner in recognition of their service to our Nation. Because of the wide variety<br />
of services the VA provides to veterans and their families, the department is<br />
structured into three main branches.<br />
VETERANS HEALTH ADMINISTRATION<br />
The <strong>Veteran</strong>s Health Administration (VHA) is responsible for the administration<br />
and operation of over 1,400 community-based outpatient clinics, hospitals,<br />
medical centers, and long-term healthcare facilities that provide world-class<br />

VETERANS BENEFITS ADMINISTRATION<br />
The <strong>Veteran</strong>s Benefits Administration (VBA) is responsible for initial veteran<br />
registration, eligibility determination, and five key benefits and entitlements:<br />
Home Loan Guaranty, Insurance, Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment,<br />
Education (GI Bill), and Compensation and Pension.<br />
