“Disabled <strong>Veteran</strong>” means any veteran as defined herein who is currently declared<br />
by the VA to be 10 percent or more disabled as a result of his or her service; and<br />
“100 percent Disabled <strong>Veteran</strong>” means any veteran as defined herein who is<br />
currently declared by the VA to be 100 percent disabled as a result of his or her<br />
service. Proof of disability shall be deemed conclusive if it is of VA record.<br />
To apply for veteran’s preference credits, obtain from any State department<br />
testing office a copy of CalHR Form 1093 (09/12), “Application for <strong>Veteran</strong>s<br />
Preference for California State Civil Service Examinations” or print a copy found at<br />
jobs.ca.gov/PDF/SPB1093.pdf. This form, along with a copy of military discharge<br />
papers (Member 4 copy of the DD Form 214), should be mailed to:<br />

STEPS TO GETTING A STATE JOB<br />
To apply for state employment, create an account online. Go to jobs.ca.gov<br />
and, under “Sign In to My Profile, User I.D.,” select “Create a New Profile”.<br />
After completing the registration process and safely stored the user ID and<br />
password for future use, an individual may complete an application or save<br />
the profile and return to it later. To find job vacancy listings, go to<br />
jobs.spb.ca.gov/wvpos/index.cfm.<br />
PROGRAMS FOR VETERANS<br />
The Employment Development Department (EDD) is California’s designated state<br />
workforce agency. The <strong>Veteran</strong>s’ Program is a grant-funded program administered<br />
by the EDD Workforce Services Branch. The EDD Disabled <strong>Veteran</strong>s’ Outreach<br />
Program (DVOP) specialists and Local <strong>Veteran</strong>s’ Employment Representatives<br />
(LVER) staff are located at the America’s Job Centers of California to coordinate,<br />
along with partner agencies, a wide array of services, including but not limited to,<br />
employment services, job training, vocational education, supportive services, and<br />
participation in community college programs. The DVOP specialists focus their<br />
efforts on those economically or educationally disadvantaged veterans who can<br />
reasonably be expected to benefit from improved employability as a result of the<br />
