MAINTENANCE ORBAN MODEL <strong>8685</strong><br />

Subassembly Removal and Replacement<br />

See page 6-37 for the Circuit Board Locator and Basic Interconnections diagram.<br />

1. Removing the Top Cover.<br />

To access the main boards, power supply board or display assembly, you must<br />

remove the top cover.<br />

A) Disconnect the <strong>8685</strong> and remove it from the rack.<br />

Be sure power is disconnected before removing the cover.<br />

Hazardous voltage is exposed when the unit is open and the<br />

power is ON.<br />

B) Set the unit upright on a padded surface with the front panel facing you.<br />

C) Remove seventeen thread-forming screws and five machine screws holding<br />

the top cover in place and lift the top cover off.<br />

Use a #1 Phillips screwdriver.<br />

2. Removing the Input/Output Assembly.<br />

This applies to both the base I/O assembly (AES3id I/O only) and to the optional<br />

HD-SDI I/O assembly.<br />

A) Make sure that AC power is disconnected from the <strong>8685</strong>.<br />

B) Remove the 14-conductor ribbon cable from the base board at JP600.<br />

C) Remove the two 40-conductor ribbon cables from the DSP board at J602 and<br />

J603.<br />

D) Remove the power cable at J601.<br />

E) Remove the three Phillips screws holding the rear of the Input/Output assembly<br />

to the floor of the chassis.<br />

F) Remove the ten Phillips screws holding the input/output assembly to the rear<br />

panel.<br />

G) Remove the Input/Output assembly.<br />

3. Removing the DSP Board.<br />

A) Make sure that AC power is disconnected from the <strong>8685</strong>.<br />

B) If you have not done so yet, remove the top cover (step 1 on page 4-2).<br />

C) Disconnect the ribbon cable from J901 on the DSP board.<br />

D) Disconnect the ribbon cable from J601 on the DSP board.<br />

E) At J602 and J603 on the Input/Output assembly, disconnect the two ribbon<br />

cables soldered to J701 and J702 of the DSP board.
