INFORMATION FOR PRESENTATION
What is gender and gender inequality?
Sometimes it is hard to understand exactly what is meant by the term “gender”, and how it
differs from the closely related term “sex”.
• We are all born a particular “sex” so that we are either a man or a women, it is a physical
attribute that does not change between different human societies.
• “Gender” refers to the socially constructed roles, behaviours and activities that are
appropriate for men and women, often these roles are different between different
human societies.
• Gender results in differences between men and women as well as inequalities between
men and women.
