Session objective : To provide MHFA in<strong>for</strong>mation <strong>for</strong> a range of common symptoms associated<br />
with mental disorders.<br />
Session duration : 2 hours<br />
Activity 13 : Responding to a person who is tired all the time<br />
Time : 30 minutes<br />
Purpose : To teach participants how to respond to and help someone who is tired<br />
all the time.<br />
Materials : In<strong>for</strong>mation <strong>for</strong> presentation and Case study F (found in Appendix E)<br />
Directions : Step 1<br />
Give a presentation based on the ‘In<strong>for</strong>mation <strong>for</strong> Presentation’ box<br />
below.<br />
INFORMATION FOR PRESENTATION<br />
A person who is tired all the time<br />
Chronic tiredness is one of the most common complaints. 2 It is psychologically distressing<br />
since it can be misinterpreted by family, friends and co-workers. It can affect a person’s life<br />
in a negative way.<br />
Tiredness can be felt in different ways:<br />
• feeling tired all the time<br />
• getting easily tired while per<strong>for</strong>ming everyday tasks<br />
• finding it difficult to recover from being tired, despite rest.<br />
Tiredness becomes a problem when:<br />
• it goes on <strong>for</strong> too long<br />
• you do not know the cause<br />
• it interferes with your day-to-day activities.<br />
Causes of tiredness:<br />
• physical illness like hypertension, diabetes and anaemia<br />
• depression, stress or anxiety<br />
• having poor sleep<br />
• overwork or doing too much.<br />
