Bakü liderliğinde gerçekleştirilen bu etkinlik, sporcular için mükemmel
bir buluşma noktası. Avrupa Oyunları çok güzel bir fırsat çünkü daha çok
insanın bir araya gelmesi, daha fazla anlayış demek.
I think this great event in the leadership of Baku is a meeting point for a lot of
athletes. I regard European Games as a good opportunity because the more people
meet the better they understand each other.

Düşün ki nar bir dünya diyor ve ekliyor
Paşayeva: “Nar kültürler arası diyaloğun bir
simgesidir. Narın içindeki çekirdekler öyle
güzel dizilmişler ki biri diğerinin hakkını
ihlal etmiyor. Birbirlerine zarar vermeden
öylece durabiliyorlar. İşte biz de gördük ki
dünyadaki ülkeler de aslında bu şekilde olabilirler.”

ülkeler de birbirinin hakkını ihlal etmeden
aynı narın içindeki çekirdekler gibi bir arada
var olabilir. Yeri gelmişken Ermenistan
sporcu kafilesinin arenaya girişini de burada
anmak gerek. Oyunlar başlamadan
önce Ermenistanlı sporcular Azerbaycan’a
gelecek mi gelmeyecek mi tartışması oldu.
Ama her zamanki gibi spor kazandı ve
Ermeni sporcular misafirleri selamlamak
üzere arenaya çıktı. Elbette nefesler tutuldu.

group took their place in the arena in high
spirits. Like the seeds in a pomegranate,
Armenia and Azerbaijan came face to face
in the arena. Everything was in accord with
the spirit of sports. Armenian athletes did
not get a cheerful applaud but there was
nothing to bother them. Those who were
present at the opening ceremony and who
lost many loved ones in Karabakh were
recorded in history that night.
HAIL TO TURKEY
The love of Turkey in this country is really
astonishing for me maybe because this
is my first visit to Azerbaijan. The entire
world watched the opening ceremony and
witnessed this love. Azerbaijani and Turkish
athletes, holding each other’s flags,
showed the world how we can live together
in harmony like the seeds in a pomegranate.
I felt overwhelmed when all guests strongly
applauded the Turkish athlete group. I am
grateful for this, particularly to our Azerbaijani
friends. A country loves another
country so much that they loudly applaud
when they see the athletes of that country.
The speaker, reporting the moment to TV
screens, expresses our feelings. He says,
“Today, we see late leader Heydar Aliyev’s
‘One nation, two states’ ideal here.” That’s
how European Games started in Azerbaijan
and 17 competition days brought much
excitement to the country. This excitement
was kept until the closing ceremony.

A SPECTACULAR CLOSING
Art director of this magical opening ceremony
was Dimitris Papaioannou, and the
closing ceremony came off James Hadley’s
hands. Hadley drew the lines of the closing
ceremony by saying, “A bright future,
exploring the unity between traditional
and modern Azerbaijani culture”. At the
closing ceremony, we observed a victorious
Azerbaijan as the winner of 56 medals, 21
of which were gold. More importantly, we
observed a proud Azerbaijan which successfully
completed this 17-day marathon
with excellent hospitality. This pride was
