CHAPTER3 Building COMComponentsA COM component built in Panther consists of a DLL file and a Panther servicecomponent having the same name. COM components are developed in the Panthereditor, just as client screens and reports are, by:! Creating the service component in the editor.! Defining the component's interface: its identifier, properties, and methods.! Writing the JPL, C, or Java processing that implements the component'smethods.! Specifying properties for the service component.! Saving the service component, which saves the service component in a Pantherapplication library and creates the DLL, type library, and registry files whichallow you to deploy the service component in a COM, DCOM or MTSenvironment.Creating Service ComponentsTo create a service component, choose File→New→Service Component.
