He f<strong>in</strong>ished beh<strong>in</strong>d Whitworth<strong>CSI</strong> photo<strong>CSI</strong>'s Pavel Buyanov shows off his NCAA championship trophy <strong>in</strong> 2008.The Dolph<strong>in</strong> senior placed third <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> 100-yard breaststroke Saturdaynight.College junior Rory Buck, who won <strong>in</strong>54.30, and Kenyon senior Coll<strong>in</strong> Ohn<strong>in</strong>g(54.86).a 54.27 set <strong>in</strong> 2009, when he won <strong>the</strong> event for <strong>the</strong> second straight year.Buyanov holds <strong>the</strong> NCAA meet record with“I felt really good,” said Buyanov of his season-best time. “It was a strong race and if I made any technicalmistakes <strong>the</strong>y were m<strong>in</strong>or. I just have to hand it to <strong>the</strong> competitors <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> event. They were outstand<strong>in</strong>g.”Buyanov set <strong>the</strong> pace <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> f<strong>in</strong>al, lead<strong>in</strong>g through <strong>the</strong> 75-yard mark before Buck and Ohn<strong>in</strong>g caught himdown <strong>the</strong> stretch.“I kept look<strong>in</strong>g at (Buck) and I knew he would make a move at <strong>the</strong> end and he did,” Buyanov said. “I’mpretty happy. I wanted first place, of course, but it was a very good time and I’m pleased with <strong>the</strong> race.”Page 100 of 179
