CUNYAC W<strong>in</strong>ter Stars Compet<strong>in</strong>g For National ChampionshipsSwimmers, Track & Field Stars, Hoopsters & Wrestlers Set to Score!CUNYAC Stars Danila Novikov (<strong>CSI</strong>) and Gerale Middleton (QCC) look to Sh<strong>in</strong>e this W<strong>in</strong>ter!Flush<strong>in</strong>g, NY -- The first of two w<strong>in</strong>ter weekends of postseason sports season starts today, as <strong>the</strong> best and brightestaround <strong>the</strong> City University of New York Athletic Conference get ready to compete for Regional and National glory.Eight swimmers, 18 track stars and one wrestler will aim to become <strong>the</strong> Conference's first All-American of 2011, asCUNYAC student-athletes will try to top <strong>the</strong> stunn<strong>in</strong>g 30 All-American honors <strong>in</strong> 2010."We're extremely excited to have our student-athletes compet<strong>in</strong>g at <strong>the</strong> highest level, which is what <strong>the</strong>y work for allyear long, a National Championship," said CUNYAC Executive Director Zak Ivkovic. "Our goal is to surpass <strong>the</strong> thirtyAll-Americans we enjoyed last year."First off, <strong>the</strong> NJCAA National Swimm<strong>in</strong>g & Div<strong>in</strong>g and Indoor Track & Field Championships get underway <strong>in</strong>Buffalo, NY and Lubbock, TX, respectively. The two concurrent events are constituted of all Junior College Divisions,I, II and III, while <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> spr<strong>in</strong>g, <strong>the</strong>re is a dedicated Division III Outdoor Track Championship <strong>in</strong> May.Three members of <strong>the</strong> Queensborough Commmunity College swimn<strong>in</strong>g team have qualified for <strong>the</strong> NJCAANational NJCAA event, Mat<strong>the</strong>w Makower-Brown, Nutteda Getgavipak and freshman spr<strong>in</strong>ter Shirley Falconi,who won <strong>the</strong> CUNYAC Championship races <strong>in</strong> both <strong>the</strong> 50 Yard and 100 Yard Freestyle. sett<strong>in</strong>g a new meet record<strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> fifty.At <strong>the</strong> NJCAA Indoor Track Championships, CUNYAC will have a huge presence, with all three CommunityCollege that just starred at <strong>the</strong> Conference Indoor Meet mak<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> trip to Texas. While, all three schools are hop<strong>in</strong>gfor All-Americans and National titles, Bronx Community College may have <strong>the</strong> best shot at achiev<strong>in</strong>g those goalswith freshman sensation Ashley Armand sett<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> pace. Armand, <strong>the</strong> CUNYAC Cross Country Champion last fall,f<strong>in</strong>ished second at <strong>the</strong> NJCAA Championships and recently won <strong>the</strong> CUNYAC Indoor 400 and 800 Meter titles.Throwers Natasha Hill and Errol Jeffries (CUNYAC Champ, Weight Throw & Shot Put) will also contend for <strong>the</strong>Broncos.K<strong>in</strong>gsborough, <strong>the</strong> Community College Men's Team champs at this week's CUNYAC Champs, will once aga<strong>in</strong> send aslew of student-athletes to <strong>the</strong> NJCAA's, with n<strong>in</strong>e participants: Tashaka Adolph.
