Classesthat lead to certification are ongoing atdifferent sites, among them the College ofStaten Island in Willowbrook, the JewishCommunity Center in Sea View and theYMCA South Shore branch in Eltingvilleand North Shore Broadway Center in WestBrighton.PayAccording to Ms. Tata, the starting rate fora new lifeguard is $7.50 an hour; moreexperienced guards can earn as much as$10 an hour.
