“We were right <strong>the</strong>re aga<strong>in</strong>,” said <strong>CSI</strong> coach Tony Petosa, who returns his top eight players next season.“That’s pretty much <strong>the</strong> way it’s been all year, a close game <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> f<strong>in</strong>al m<strong>in</strong>utes.”Early <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> season, <strong>the</strong> Dolph<strong>in</strong>s made a habit of w<strong>in</strong>n<strong>in</strong>g those games. They started off 14-4 beforedropp<strong>in</strong>g seven of <strong>the</strong>ir f<strong>in</strong>al 10, many <strong>in</strong> excruciat<strong>in</strong>g fashion.<strong>CSI</strong> junior forward Jordan Young f<strong>in</strong>ished strong, scor<strong>in</strong>g 14 of his team-high 21 po<strong>in</strong>ts and grabb<strong>in</strong>g sixrebounds <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> second half despite play<strong>in</strong>g with a broken nose.Tibbs and Young were <strong>in</strong>jured <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> first half of <strong>the</strong> CUNY championship game aga<strong>in</strong>st Medgar Evers.“I was def<strong>in</strong>itely go<strong>in</strong>g to play,” said <strong>the</strong> 6-foot-5 Young, who will return for his f<strong>in</strong>al season with a chance tomake a run at <strong>the</strong> school’s all-time scor<strong>in</strong>g record. “I have a s<strong>in</strong>us <strong>in</strong>fection and had some problemsbreath<strong>in</strong>g, but we pushed <strong>the</strong>m pretty hard.”Rutgers-Newark led 38-30 at halftime and 50-40 just four m<strong>in</strong>utes <strong>in</strong>to <strong>the</strong> second half, but David Hughesand Phil Broomfield hit three-po<strong>in</strong>t shots and Hughes capped an 8-0 run with a short jumper to make it 50-48.Then, after <strong>the</strong> Scarlet Raiders took a 67-58 lead on Tyler Jones’ three-po<strong>in</strong>ter from <strong>the</strong> right corner, <strong>the</strong>Dolph<strong>in</strong>s made a f<strong>in</strong>al 10-4 run capped by Taranto’s trey.“We really did play pretty well without Tommy (Tibbs),” said Petosa.Taranto f<strong>in</strong>ished with 12 po<strong>in</strong>ts, eight rebounds and seven assists while freshman Bloochy Magliore had 11po<strong>in</strong>ts and six rebounds.
