St. John's University will play host to a prom<strong>in</strong>ent news anchor, WagnerCollege will have a well-known historian and <strong>the</strong> College of Staten Island will feature <strong>the</strong> state comptroller.St. John's University has secured <strong>the</strong> services of Maria Bartiromo, a lead anchor at CNBC, for <strong>the</strong> May 14, 10a.m. ceremony at <strong>the</strong> Grymes Hill campus. Ms. Bartiromo will receive an honorary doctor of letters degree."The Clos<strong>in</strong>g Bell with Maria Bartiromo" airs Monday through Friday from 3 to 5 p.m. She was also manag<strong>in</strong>geditor of "Wall Street Journal Report with Maria Bartiromo," which was <strong>the</strong> most-watched f<strong>in</strong>ancial newsprogram <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> United States. Ms. Bartiromo covered Wall Street for more than 20 years.New York City historian Kenneth Jackson will be <strong>the</strong> speaker at <strong>the</strong> Wagner College ceremony on Grymes Hillon May 20.Jackson is Jacques Barzun Professor of History and Social Sciences and director of <strong>the</strong> Herbert H. LehmanCenter for American History at Columbia University, where he specializes <strong>in</strong> urban, social and militaryhistory. He is president emeritus of <strong>the</strong> New-York Historical Society.Jackson's second edition of "The Encyclopedia of New York City," which he co-authored, was published <strong>in</strong>December. It is considered <strong>the</strong> def<strong>in</strong>itive Big Apple reference.His "Crabgrass Frontier: The Suburbanization of <strong>the</strong> United States" (1985) won <strong>the</strong> Francis Parkman and <strong>the</strong>Bancroft prizes.State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli will grace <strong>the</strong> College of Staten Island's June 2 ceremony on <strong>the</strong>Willowbrook campus' Great Lawn.DiNapoli, Democrat from Long Island, won election last fall to <strong>the</strong> post to which he was appo<strong>in</strong>ted <strong>in</strong> 2007.He has used his considerable powers of <strong>the</strong> purse to save <strong>the</strong> state millions of dollars by uncover<strong>in</strong>g Medicaidfraud and audit<strong>in</strong>g schools.
