The session will feature brief presentationsfrom hardware and software vendors whose product lines impact thermalimaging applications.Unlike the technical sessions, there are no “commercial content” restrictionsin these presentations.This event allows vendors to showcase new products on display atthis year’s exhibit, and provides attendees with an advance glimpse of“what’s new” in thermal imaging applications.All exhibitors are eligible to present.The Vendor Session was started eleven years ago and has been a popular,well-attended success. It allows the busy technical conference attendeesto better prioritize their time when visiting the exhibits. An understanding of themotivations of universities and federal laboratories and what they areseeking from commercialization partners will be discussed. The mechanismsby which industry can work with labs will be described (researchagreements, CRADAs, etc.) and a discussion of the license negotiationprocess will be included.STEP TWO: Getting a Technology to MarketSpeaker: Ronald KaeseThis talk will describe the various stages of commercializing a technologyfrom a university or federal laboratory and what it takes to besuccessful. This includes the types of funding and other resources thatare generally available and appropriate at each stage of the company’sproduct development. Specific examples of funding programs and otherresources in Maryland will be used as examples of typical state-basedresources for early-stage companies.INDUSTRY PANEL: Commercialization StoriesModerator: Stephen AuvilA panel of entrepreneurs who are commercializing non-defense, photonics-relatedtechnologies licensed from universities or federal laboratorieswill share their experiences with the commercialization process.Each entrepreneur will give a brief introduction to their story followedby a question-and-answer session led by the moderator. Mr. Montemarano has helped largeand small companies, and government researchers access emergingtechnologies, faculty and other university resources resulting in a significantincrease in sponsored research, the launch of several spin-offcompanies, and successful technology commercialization and fieldedapplications. He joined Princeton University in July 1994, and currentlyserves as Executive Director for the NSF-Engineering Research Centeron Mid-InfraRed Technologies for Health and Environment (MIRTHE) ledby Princeton University, and Director for Industrial Enterprise for thePrinceton Institute for Science and Technology of Materials (PRISM).About MIRTHE: MIRTHE is an Engineering Research Centerfor Mid-InfraRed Technologies for Health and the Environmentsponsored by NSF.
