Wheels and tiresWheels and tiresTire inflation pressuresInformation for your safetyIt is not merely the tires' service life, but alsodriving comfort and, to a great extent, drivingsafety that depend on the condition of the tiresand the maintenance of the specified tire pressure.Check the tire inflation pressure regularlyand correct it, if necessary: at least twice amonth and before starting long trips. If you failto observe this precaution you may be drivingon tires with incorrect tire pressures, a conditionthat can not only compromise your vehicle'sdriving stability, but also lead to tire damageand the risk of an accident. Do not drivewith deflated, i.e. flat tires, except when usingrun-flat tires. A flat tire will seriously impair yourvehicle's handling and braking response.Attempts to drive on a flat tire can lead to loss ofcontrol over the vehicle. Tire sizes for your vehicle> Load conditions> Maximum allowable driving speedTire inflation pressures for driving up to100 mph or 160 km/hFor normal driving up to 100 mph or 160 km/hand to achieve optimum driving comfort, adjustpressures to the respective tire inflation pressureslisted on the following pages in the columnsfor traveling speeds up to a maximum of100mph or 160km/h.These tire inflation pressures can also be foundon the driver's side door post when the driver'sdoor is open.Checking pressureOnly check tire inflation pressure when thetires are cold. This means after a maximum of1.25 miles/2 km driving or when the vehicle hasbeen parked for at least 2 hours. When tires arewarm, the tire inflation pressure is higher. After correcting the tire inflation pressure, reset the Tire Pressure Monitor, refer topage 74, or reinitialize the Flat Tire Monitor, refer to page 72.
