Under the hoodPossible displaysAdding engine oilAdd a maximum of 1 US quart/1 liter of engineoil only after until the following warning lamplights up in the instrument cluster or the oil leveldisplay reads "+1l".1 Oil level OK2 Oil level is being checked.This can take about 3 minutes if the car is ata standstill on a level surface, or about5 minutes while the car is on the move.3 Oil level down to minimum:Add engine oil as soon as possible, but nomore than 1 US quart/1 liter, refer also toAdding engine oil on page 124.4 Oil level is too high.Too much oil will harm the engine.Have the vehicle checked <strong>without</strong>delay.
The engine oil grade is a decisive factor for theservice life of the engine.Approved engine oils can be found in the followingspecification:Gasoline enginePreferred:Alternative:Approved engine oils belong to the viscosityclasses SAE 0W-40, SAE 0W-30, SAE 5W-40,and SAE 5W-30.Alternative oil gradesIf approved oils are not available, you can usequantities of up to 1 US quart/1 liter of anotheroil with the following specifications:API SM or higherCoolantDo not add coolant to the cooling systemwhen the engine is hot. Escaping coolantcan cause burns.
