Socket for OnboardDiagnosis OBDOn the driver's side is an OBD socket for checkingcomponents relevant to the composition ofthe vehicle's emissions.EmissionsThe warning lamp lights up:The vehicle is producing higher emissions.The trip can be continued. Havethe car checked as soon as possible.Canadian models display this warninglamp.The lamp flashes under certain conditions.This indicates excessive misfiring in theengine. If this happens, you should reduce yourspeed and visit your nearest BMW center assoon as possible. Severe engine misfiring canquickly lead to serious damage of emissionsrelatedcomponents, especially the catalyticconverter.The warning lamp comes on if the gascap is not properly tightened and theOBD system assumes that fuel vaporis escaping. Make sure that the gas cap is correctlypositioned and close it until it audiblyclicks.Data memoryYour vehicle records data about the operation,faults, and user settings. These data are storedin the vehicle and in extract form, in the remotecontrol, and can be read out using suitabledevices at your BMW center. The data that areread out are used to support service proceduresand repairs or to optimize and expandvehicle functions.
