88The 76 mm by 152 mm cylinders subjected to 28 day strength evaluation were also noticed tobleed once the grout was poured and the cylinders were capped (Figure 54).(a) (b) (c)(d)Figure 54: Expansive C(I) + C(K) + NS7 and C(I) + NS7 mixtures (a), (b), (c) shownwithin the cavity in matrix soil and (d) placed in cylinders for curing and 28 daystrength evaluationLoess Piers – FibersAnother component that was used in this research was the 19 mm polypropylene fibers.Capable of high tensile strength and ductility, presence of fibers can be very important for theoverall strength performance of the mixtures. For the purpose of this research fibers wereobtained from PSI company and utilized in loess and grout based mixes.Previous research has shown the fibrous materials to be successfully implemented in concreteconstruction applications such as hollow concrete piers (Yeh and Mo, 2005). See Figure 55for the image provided for the fibers.
