The course focuses on a solid understandingof educational technology, including how to use computers,how to access information on the World Wide Web, andhow to integrate computers into the classroom curriculum.Hands-on technology activities will be an important part of thecourse. Students should have basic keyboarding skills and basicknowledge of word processing, spreadsheet and database software.(same as ITAPP 160)ED 212 (IAI: ECE 913)EXCEPTIONAL CHILDPrerequisite: ED 1013 lectures per week: 3 hrs creditThis course provides an overview of children with exceptionalcognitive, physical, social and emotional characteristics. Itincludes an analysis of developmental and emotional needsimposed by exceptionality. Students consider identification protocols,intervention strategies, and teaching methods and programsdesigned to meet the needs of exceptional children(including but not limited to children with learning disabilities).Applicable federal and state laws and requirements are coveredincluding the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act,Americans with Disabilities Act, Individualized Family ServicePlan, Individualized Education Plan and inclusive programs.Thiscourse fulfills the requirements of School Code,Article 21-2a.126
