Or you might be among the many who have workedfor years toward an associate’s degree while juggling otherresponsibilities.Whatever you have accomplished, we’re pleased and proudto have been part of your educational journey.We wish youwell with your next step, whether it is on your career path oron the path toward a bachelor’s degree and even graduateschool.GRADUATIONAs outlined in the opening OVERVIEW section, PSC grants certificatesand the following six associate’s degrees:• Associate in Arts (A.A.)• Associate in Science (A.S.)• Associate in Fine Arts (A.F.A.)• Associate of Arts in Teaching (A.A.T.)• Associate in Applied Science (A.A.S.; career and technicaldegree)• Associate in General Studies (A.G.S.; not intended forcareer program or a bachelor’s degree)Specific curriculum requirements for a particular degree orcertificate program are found in DEGREES, CERTIFICATES,COURSES. Consult that section of the catalog and the indexfor detailed information.The next section gives an overview ofgraduation requirements.GRADUATION &TRANSFERRINGGRADUATION REQUIREMENTSTo earn a degree or certificate, you must complete the academicrequirements shown in the catalog for the year in which youentered Prairie State College. If the degree or certificaterequirements are changed during your attendance, you mayelect to satisfy either the new requirement or the ones in forcewhen you enrolled. If you withdraw from Prairie State Collegefor either a Fall or Spring semester, you must satisfy requirementsin force at the time you re-enroll.When submitting a graduation petition, you will be asked toidentify the year of the catalog from which you are graduating.Any petition for alteration of graduation requirements must besubmitted in writing on a Student Appeal Form–available in theCounseling & Academic Advising Center–at least one semesterprior to graduation. Graduation petitions must be submitted tothe Admissions Office no later than the following dates:Fall graduation: October 1Spring graduation: March 1Summer graduation: July 1December, May and August candidates may choose to participatein the annual May Commencement ceremony (see followingsection,“Commencement Ceremony”).Students planning to receive a degree and/or certificate atPSC must request an official evaluation of their credits in theOffice of Admissions, Records & Registration by completing the“Transcript Evaluation Request Form” at least one or twosemesters prior to degree and/or certificate completion inorder to ensure correct course selections.The form is alsoavailable on the College Web site and may be printed andmailed to the Office of Admissions, Records & Registration atthe Main Campus address.172
