2006-2008 CATALOGILLINOIS ARTICULATION INITIATIVE(IAI) www.iTransfer.org<strong>Prairie</strong> <strong>State</strong> <strong>College</strong> participates in the Illinois ArticulationInitiative (IAI), a statewide agreement that allows transfer of thecompleted Illinois Transferable General Education CoreCurriculum between participating institutions. Completion ofthe Transferable General Education Core Curriculum at anyparticipating college or university in Illinois assures transferringstudents that lower-division general education requirements foran associate’s or bachelor’s degree have been satisfied. Thisagreement became effective statewide in the Summer of 1998.It applies to students who enrolled in an associate or baccalaureatedegree-granting institution as a first-time freshman insummer 1998 or later. More than 100 schools, including allcommunity colleges and all public state universities in Illinois, aswell as most independent colleges and universities in the state,participate in the IAI.UNDERSTANDING IAI1. The IAI Agreement and the iTransfer Web site are designedto simplify transferring to any participating school. Alwaysseek the advice of academic advisors at <strong>Prairie</strong> <strong>State</strong> <strong>College</strong>and the school you plan to attend when making transferplans.2. Articulation is the process of transferring courses from oneschool to another and identifying the way the classes will beused at the receiving school.3. The Illinois General Education Core Curriculum is for transferstudents only.4. To guarantee that you receive full credit, you should completethe Illinois General Education Core Curriculum packagebefore transferring.When it is not completed beforetransfer, each college or university decides how to applyeach individual course.5. The Illinois General Education Core Curriculum requires atotal of 12 to 13 courses (37 to 41 semester credits).6. The General Education requirements at <strong>Prairie</strong> <strong>State</strong> <strong>College</strong>are aligned with the five major areas (fields or categories)within the Illinois General Education Core Curriculum:AreaA: Communication,Area B: Humanities and Fine Arts,AreaC: Mathematics,Area D: Physical and Life Sciences, and AreaE: Social and Behavioral Sciences.7. The Illinois General Education Core Curriculum becameeffective statewide in the summer of 1998.8. Application of credit earned prior to summer 1998 is thedecision of the receiving institution. For information aboutIAI and graduation requirements, see page 171.9. There are two types of undergraduate degrees: the associate’sdegree and the bachelor’s degree.10.The IAI is identifying courses which will apply to specificmajors. <strong>Prairie</strong> <strong>State</strong> <strong>College</strong> students are encouraged tocomplete an Associate in Arts,Associate in Science, orAssociate in Fine Arts degree prior to transfer.IAI PARTNERSParticipating public and private institutions that grant bachelor’sdegrees are listed below.
