GUIDELINESThe Associate in General Studies (A.G.S.) degree, while notintended for transfer or directed at a specific occupation,allows students to design their own two-year program. It providesan opportunity for you to complete an associate’s degreeof your own making.This degree has minimal general educationrequirements and thus allows you considerable freedom indesigning and pursuing a course of study that meets your individualizedlearning goals. Note, however, that this degree is notrecommended as a stepping-stone toward a baccalaureatedegree; nor is it covered by the <strong>College</strong>’s EducationalGuarantee. Students considering the Associate in GeneralStudies degree should meet with an advisor or counselor todetermine whether this degree is well suited to their educationalgoals and needs.A.G.S. DEGREE REQUIREMENTSA student will be recommended for an Associate in GeneralStudies degree upon completion of the following requirements:1. Enrolled at <strong>Prairie</strong> <strong>State</strong> <strong>College</strong> for one semester immediatelypreceding graduation, with passing grades in at least 15semester hours of credit at <strong>Prairie</strong> <strong>State</strong> <strong>College</strong> (excludingproficiency credits).2. Completed 62 semester hours of college credit, 20 of whichare specified below.3.Attained a minimum grade point average of 2.0.4. Completed at least one course in each of the major GeneralEducation components (communication, humanities, scienceand mathematics and the social sciences).5. Completed the remaining 47 credit hours for the degreebased on the student’s area of interest, and including anybaccalaureate or occupationally oriented courses offered bythe <strong>College</strong> and numbered 100 or higher.DEGREES,CERTIFICATES,COURSES69
