2006-2008 CATALOGPROFESSIONAL HONOR SOCIETIESStudents at Prairie State College can belong to four professionalhonor societies. Phi Theta Kappa is the international honorsociety for community college students.Alpha Beta Gamma isthe national honor society for students in business-related disciplines.Sigma Phi Alpha is the national honor society for studentsin dental hygiene.There is also the Prairie State CollegeNursing Honorary Society.ATTENDANCERegular class attendance is an essential component of successfullearning. Students are responsible for prompt attendanceand participation in all class meetings of every course for whichthey are registered.You have the responsibility to contact professorsin case of unavoidable absence. Make-up work will bearranged at the professors’ discretion.The specific attendance policy of each professor will beincluded in the course syllabus distributed on the first day ofclass. Students who do not regularly attend class are stronglyadvised to officially withdraw from the course by the designateddate for the semester.Those who do not officially withdrawwill be given a grade of “F” for the course.COURSE LOADThe College reserves the right to make decisions on themaximum amount of credit to be carried on the basis of yourprevious academic record and your obligations beyond theinstructional program. If you have a full-time job, you shouldnot attempt to take a full-time load of classes (12 or morecredit hours).Please note that the maximum course load changes duringthe Summer sessions, which are shorter.
