ENROLLMENT2006-2008 CATALOGENROLLMENTCURRENT HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTSIf you are a high school junior or senior, you may be admittedto <strong>Prairie</strong> <strong>State</strong> <strong>College</strong> on the written recommendation ofyour high school principal or guidance counselor. Guest studentapplication forms are available in the Counseling & AcademicAdvising Center.The <strong>College</strong> reserves the right to make thefinal determination on whether to admit a high school student.Qualifying high school students in District 515 may be eligibleto take one free course. See “Tuition-free Classes for HighSchool Seniors” in the “Tuition & Fees” section below.The Career Preparation Network allows qualified highschool students in PSC’s district to take classes in areas such asaccounting, automotive technology, information technology,computer electronic technology, manufacturing technology andCAD/mechanical design that transfer to PSC. For more information,see the section on Tech Prep in DEGREES, CERTIFI-CATES, COURSES (page 104).GENERAL INFORMATIONA full-time student must take at least 12 credit hours in asemester. Anything less than that is considered part-time.Applications for part-time enrollment are processed in thesame way as those for full-time students. If you wish to enrollin more than 18 credit hours, you must have the approval ofthe Dean of Academic Services & Counseling.As a student at <strong>Prairie</strong> <strong>State</strong> <strong>College</strong>, you will be classifiedas follows:Freshman. Any student who has completed less than 30 credithours of college work.Sophomore. Any student who has completed 30 credit hours ormore of college work.During the registration period and at designated timesduring the first week of classes, you may add or drop courses.An additional fee may be charged for changes made after thebeginning of classes.Courses or particular sections of courses are occasionallycanceled due to insufficient enrollment. In such cases, the<strong>College</strong> will make every attempt to notify you so you mayenroll in another section or another course. Refunds are automaticallyapproved for canceled classes.TUITION & FEESIn order to pay in-district tuition, a student must live in <strong>Prairie</strong><strong>State</strong> <strong>College</strong> District 515 or with parents or a legal guardianwho lives in the district.A list of the communities within <strong>Prairie</strong><strong>State</strong> <strong>College</strong>’s district may be found on the title page of this<strong>catalog</strong>.In addition, full-time employees of in-district companies maybe eligible for in-district rates. High school seniors and seniorcitizens are eligible for additional tuition and fee discounts (see“Special Tuition Discounts” below for more information).Generally, if you live in Illinois but do not reside in the district,you will be charged out-of-district rates. If you are a LakeCounty, Ind., resident, you are eligible for that special rate. Ifyou live outside of Illinois and outside of Lake County, Ind., youwill be charged the out-of-state rate.TUITION & FEESIn-District Residents andEmployees of In-District Companies$73 + $9 fee = $82 per credit hourOut-of-District Residents$230 + $9 fee = $239 per credit hourOut-of-<strong>State</strong>/International Students$318 + $9 fee = $327 per credit hourLake County, Indiana, Residents$83 + $9 fee = $92 per credit hourA non-refundable registration fee of $10 is charged each semester.Tuition and fees are subject to change without notice.Consult the Credit Course Schedule and PSC Web siteeach semester for current tuition rates. If you apply early, financial aid may beavailable. Also, you may set up an installment payment plan toresolve the balance. However, if you do not make arrangementsor pay the balance by the date published in the Credit CourseSchedule, you may be dropped from all your classes for nonpaymentand have to re-register.INSTALLMENT PAYMENT PLAN<strong>Prairie</strong> <strong>State</strong> <strong>College</strong> utilizes the services of FACTS e-cashierfor payment plans.The non-refundable charge for setting up theplan is $30 and will be processed immediately.
