<strong>UNDP</strong> Municipal Governance and Susta<strong>in</strong>able Development Programme <strong>First</strong> <strong>Quarterly</strong> <strong>Progress</strong> <strong>Report</strong> <strong>2009</strong>Annex – IV:Details on CIDA-Supported Community Projects<strong>UNDP</strong> <strong>in</strong> Ukra<strong>in</strong>e and the Government of Canada as represented by the M<strong>in</strong>ister for International Cooperation,act<strong>in</strong>g through Canadian International Development Agency have signed the Grant Agreement. With<strong>in</strong> this support,MGSDP receives 1’000’000 CAD for the follow<strong>in</strong>g activities:1. Improv<strong>in</strong>g capacities of municipal-level authorities to deliver high-quality public services, ma<strong>in</strong>ly <strong>in</strong> relationto urban water supply;2. Strengthen<strong>in</strong>g capacity of community organizations to prioritize their social and economic needs, jo<strong>in</strong>tlydevelop strategies with municipal authorities to address these needs, and mobilize resources to fund them <strong>in</strong>targeted municipalities of Crimea.3. Increas<strong>in</strong>g capacity of communities and municipal government <strong>in</strong>stitutions to design and implement genderresponsivepolicies, programs and projects that reflect the priorities and <strong>in</strong>terests of both Crimean women andmen.It is expected that implementation will enhance the capacity of municipal level authorities to deliver high-qualitypublic services, ma<strong>in</strong>ly <strong>in</strong> relation to urban water supply. In addition, they will strengthen the capacity of communityto prioritize their social and economic needs, jo<strong>in</strong>tly develop strategies with municipal authorities to address theseneeds and mobilize resources to fund them <strong>in</strong> targeted municipalities of Crimea. The negotiations are <strong>in</strong> progress carried out with municipalities of Alushta, Sudak andBelogorsk.On March 11-14, <strong>2009</strong>, the Annual Conference of the Municipal Support Units was held <strong>in</strong> Saky (Crimea) and 37participants represent<strong>in</strong>g 19 municipalities have improved their leadership potential and learned to apply genderbasedanalysis to local development programmes(http://msdp.undp.org.ua/<strong>in</strong>dex.php?news_id=121&language=eng).On 13 March, <strong>2009</strong>, about 40 participants, represent<strong>in</strong>g 19 municipalities have improved their leadership potential <strong>in</strong>Saky municipality and learned how to apply gender-based analysis to local development Programmes at the AnnualConference of the Municipal Support Units (see more details <strong>in</strong> Section 2.1.5. Public Awareness on Gender).On March 24-25, <strong>2009</strong>, 27 participants benefited from tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g on gender-based analysis for the teachers from fourmunicipalities of AR Crimea held <strong>in</strong> Backchysaray. The tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g empowered the teachers to contribute todevelopment of local communities by <strong>in</strong>form<strong>in</strong>g wide audience on gender, <strong>in</strong> particular through provid<strong>in</strong>g tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>gsto school children (see more details <strong>in</strong> Section 2.1.5. Public Awareness on Gender).36
