Scenario C: <strong>Biomass</strong> directly delivered to Deerhaven by truck.Using the total biomass supply analysis provided above, and established estimates ofaverage truck capacities for different types of biomass, an estimated 27,412 truckloads per yearwill be needed to supply a 40MW facility. Most wood suppliers are used to delivering materialto pulp mills five or six days per week, and because of changes in daylight, weather, andmachinery availability they need flexibility to deliver during as many hours as possible.Limitations in delivery times will increase the cost of delivered biomass.<strong>Biomass</strong> is a unique form of solid fuel in that it is often delivered from all directions.Obstacles such as bridges, roadless areas, and urban areas with truck limitations are all factors inconsidering the impact. Based upon the current activities and the total site controlled by GRU,there are three major routes by which biomass can be transported into a 40 MW facility locatedon the site:US 441 from the north;US 441 from the South;The use of the 43 rd Street extension will probably not be viable or desirable due to theschool zone for Talbot Elementary School and the congestion associated with 53 rd and 39 thAvenues. Using truck routes identified by the Florida Department of Transportation, thefollowing major routes will probably be used:• US 441 N to Alachua area• US 441 S to SR 121; N on SR 121• US 441 S to SR 121; S on 121 to SR 222; then west to I-75;• US 441 S to NW 53 rd Street, then east on 53 rd Street to SR 26A potential additional access could be a new entrance road directly north from the sitelinking to SR 121. For purposes of this discussion this road will be considered but discussedseparately.The biomass supply anticipated for the facility was divided into approximate areas servedby each of the major access routes, in order to approximate the amount of traffic impact on eachof the routes. Figure 28 showed the delineation of the biomass supply area into four deliveryquadrants, and from this analysis an estimate of the amount of biomass arriving from each isdetermined. Approximate amounts of the total of each quadrant served by each of the routesidentified above were estimated. This estimate, in number of trucks per day based upon 300delivery days per year, was then compared to current traffic counts for some of the roads being95
discussed, to get an idea of the proportion of traffic change that these roads may see with thedevelopment of the project.96
