AQAR 2005-2006, MADRAS CHRISTIAN COLLEGE, CHENNAI7. Initiative towards faculty development programmme:Identifying the potentials of the teaching faculty and giving them every opportunity toenhance them gets high priority in the educational philosophy of the College. Duringthe current academic year, members of the faculty participated in orientation andrefresher courses offered by various higher educational institutions and two facultymembers were selected under Faculty Improvement Programme offered by the UGCto pursue doctoral research.Faculty Improvement Program (FIP)• Juliana Mary Suganthy John, Department of Economics was selected for FIPunder the X Plan, to do her doctoral research during the year June 2005- 2007.• Miriam Samuel, Department of Social Work was selected for FIP under the XPlan, to do her doctoral research during the year June 2005-2007.Refresher Courses:• Mekala Rajan, Department of English, attended the UGC-sponsored ‘Need BasedRefresher Course on Earth and Environmental Science’ conducted by theAcademic Staff College, University of Madras, 09 to 29 September 2005.• K. Viswanatha, Department of Languages, attended the UGC-sponsored ‘Needbased Refresher Course on Earth and Environment Science’ conducted by theAcademic Staff College, University of Madras, 09 to 29 September, 2005.• S. Sudha, Department of Political Science, attended a Refresher Course inPolitical Science Conducted by UGC- Academic Staff College, University ofMadras, Chennai, 24 November to 14 December 2005.• A Duraisamy, Department of Economics completed a basic Refresher Course inComputers at Madurai Kamaraj University, 2006.• Spurgeon Nesapandian, Department of Philosophy, attended a Refresher courseon Earth and Environment Science, 08 to 29 September 2005.• E. John Suriya Kumar, Department of Commerce, Refresher Course in Commerceconducted by Academic Staff College, University of Madras, 13 September to 03October 20059
