AQAR 2005-2006, MADRAS CHRISTIAN COLLEGE, CHENNAIANNUAL QUALITY ASSURANCE REPORT2005-2006The focus area for quality enhancement at Madras Christian College for the academicyear 2005-06 was on industry-institution interface, encouraging extracurricular andextramural activities of students, introducing innovative and job orientedprogrammes. A plan of action was evolved and strategies were drawn based onfeedback from stakeholders and taking into consideration the valuable suggestionsgiven by the NAAC peer team during the accreditation process. The action taken onthe above areas are briefly presented herewith.Bell Tower1
AQAR 2005-2006, MADRAS CHRISTIAN COLLEGE, CHENNAIPart APlan of Action:Industry-institution interface to ensure employability ofstudents and thus contribute to national developmentOutcome:Funding agencies were identified and project proposals were submitted to nationaland international agencies such as University Grants Commission, Department ofScience and Technology, Department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Environment andForests and United Board for Christian Higher Education in Asia. During the year2005-06, there has been a steady increase in the consultancy services offered toindustries, foreign universities and colleges, Government and non-governmentalorganizations, thereby providing internships and training to students.Plan of Action:Encourage extracurricular and extramural activities ofstudents to give a comprehensive educational experienceand thus improve global competencies among them.Outcome:Sports: Our students represented the University of Madras in various sports activitiesand brought laurels in games such as Volley Ball, Cricket, Ball-Badminton, Athletics,Kho-Kho, etc. Students were also actively involved in both national and internationalyouth festivals.Cultural: The College Union Society and all the halls conducted a number of culturalprogrammes.Co-curricular Activities: The Department Associations spearheaded a number ofstudent activities. The Student Christian Movement involved students in Christianactivities and outreach programmes. NSS and NCC have been very active.Plan of Action:Introduce innovative and job oriented programmes.Outcome:Four new programmes were started in this academic year, of which three were at theUG level (Social Work, Journalism, Geography, Tourism & Travel Management) andone at the PG level (Applied Microbiology).2
