<strong>AQAR</strong> <strong>2005</strong>-<strong>2006</strong>, MADRAS CHRISTIAN COLLEGE, CHENNAI• Service-Learning Programme is introduced to ensure that academic learning islinked to social needs.• Departments have carried out academics along with Community Developmentprogrammes through the extension units of the college.• Incorporating community development activities as part of the degree programunder the Choice Based Credit System has motivated students to engage incommunity services.c. Spiritual Vitality:• Retreats organized at the beginning of the academic year for the faculty andstudents have helped the members of the college community to focus theirattention on realizing the goals and objectives of the college.• Staff Study Circle organized monthly meetings that helped faculty to engage ininterfaith dialogue and develop religious tolerance. The study circle also gave anopportunity to reflect on the relevance of <strong>Christian</strong> values in the field of highereducation.• Staff Student Retreat conducted annually aims at generating constructive nonacademicinteractions between staff and students.• The <strong>Christian</strong> ethos of the <strong>College</strong> was reflected in the various activities of theStudent <strong>Christian</strong> Movement. Members of this unit organized programmes to trainthe student community in <strong>Christian</strong> values and extended their activities tocommunity development in the Tambaram neighbourhood2. New academic programmes initiated by the college (UG & PG):• Bachelor’s programme in Social Work (BSW) was started in the self-inancedstream during the current academic year. Students evinced great interest in thiscourse due to the prospects of pursuing Masters Programme in Social Work(MSW) which is offered in both the aided and the self-financed Stream.• Bachelor’s programme in Journalism is introduced from this academic year. ThePG Diploma course in Journalism offered by MCC School of ContinuingEducation has been very successful over the years and the same interest andenthusiasm are shown by students for the new degree programme.4
