AQAR 2005-2006, MADRAS CHRISTIAN COLLEGE, CHENNAIto all the II year UG students. Discovering and developing oneself together withthe peers is a learning and living experience at MCC.• Dr. Devanesen Centre for HRD also extends its training programme to peopleoutside the portals of the College. During the year 2005-’06, programmes havebeen offered to the senior students of MCC School at Chetpet, students of EthirajCollege, Teachers of the Schools around Tambaram, students of theneighbourhood Christ King Girls Higher Secondary School and 220 workers ofthe Universal Moulds and Components, an export unit situated in KeelKattalai.• Eight members of the faculty Dr. Kannan, Mr.Jojan Job, Dr. David Prabhakar,Mr. Livingstone, Mrs. Shirmila, Dr. Mekala Rajan, Dr. Thomas Rosy, and Ms.Femina have also been trained to join the band of facilitators.CAMPUS MINISTRIESThe activities of the Campus Ministries for the year 2005-2006 commenced with aFaculty Retreat at St. Christopher’s College of Education. The Rev. Dr. Mani Chacko,Principal of Gurukul Theological College, was the leader for the retreat.• The Staff-Student retreat and retreat for members of all related institutions wereheld and were well attended.• Campus Ministries took initiative in raising funds for the Tsunami relief workcarried out by our college in Kokilamedu Village. With the financial aid given bythe Davidson College, North Carolina, USA, two boats with motors and nets wereprovided to the villagers. With additional funds from UBCHEA and St Paul’sEpiscopal Church, Clinton, USA, different activities are planned for thecommunity in Kokilamedu.• A State Level Workshop for the Teachers of Scripture was held in our Collegeduring October 2005. Christian Teachers from different colleges of Tamil Naduparticipated in this workshop.• The different units of the Campus Ministries (SCM, Staff Study Circle, ValueEducation etc.,) are active instruments to enhance the Christian presence in theneighbourhood by inculcating values and Christian principles and offeringdifferent service schemes to society.29
AQAR 2005-2006, MADRAS CHRISTIAN COLLEGE, CHENNAISTUDENT CHRISTIAN MOVEMENTThe Student Christian Movement organized various programmes for the academicyear. The focus of the programmes was on building a strong Christian value baseamong the students with a social relevance. The programmes were:• Fresher’s Retreat with the Navodaya Team; Workshop on ‘the Da Vinci Hoax:Exploring the Errors in the Da Vinci Code’ led by Mr Cyril George of RZIM LifeFocus Society, New Delhi; screening of the movie ‘Run Baby Run’, theremarkable life story of Nicky Cruz, whose best selling autobiography has morethan 12 million copies in print in over 40 languages;• Students of SCM have taken efforts to get together children form ReachOrphanage and the Model Village for a day of retreat and sharing which gave thelittle hearts a time to rejoice and meet new friends; a one-day retreat wasconducted by SCMers for children in a school in the neighbourhood.• ‘The Saviour’s Day – the SCM Christmas Programme led by the world renownedmission leader Mr. R. Stanley, a former IITian and the Founder & President ofBlessing Youth Mission; Gospel Fest ’06-Screening of Movies like ‘Candle in theDark’ – the story of William Carey (the Father of the Modern Missions) andGod’s Outlaw – the story of William Tyndale.• Thought-provoking session on the lives of the founders of our College and othermissionaries who have laid down their lives for the cause of Christ, MusicConcert with emphasis on Missions led by the noted gospel singer MahboobKhan.• Leadership Training Camp was held at St Thomas International Centre, Hill Top,St. Thomas Mount. Resource persons were: Mr. Anand Pillai, Vice-President,HCL Technologies, Mr. Ashok Vedanayagam, Chief Coordinator, FMPB and Mr.Silas Balraj, Country Director, Caruna Bal Vikas.CENTRE FOR WOMEN’S STUDIESThe Centre for Women’s Studies has played a remarkable role in making the collegecommunity and the communities in and around Tambaram aware of the status ofwomen through its academic and outreach programmes.
